The idea of Rebuild sprang from the minds of community members that have been helping to repair homes one by one for the past five years. They would go out to the homes on weekends or afternoons in small groups doing their best to make the homes safe. Many of these individuals had participated in construction missions that took them to far off places. However, once they returned home, they saw the need in their own community and are now committed to eliminating these unsafe living conditions. Both the need and the resources are here in our community. Rebuild strives to connect these two elements.
We have the capabilities to repair most anything from the chimney top to the foundation. Eventually, we would like to work ourselves out of a job in Gainesville and possibly move on to other communities. But first, we will be establishing a consistent and trusted presence in the Gainesville Community. After the summer, we are looking to institute a year round operation that is capable of incorporating local volunteers as well as groups from out of town. This would enable us to tackle long range projects and promote more community involvement. We will host volunteers throughout the year much like Habitat for Humanity- just with an emphasis on home repair versus home building.
